Taxus baccata 'David' is a striking and versatile variety of English Yew that adds a touch of elegance and bright colour to UK gardens. This evergreen conifer is particularly noted for its distinctive, golden-yellow foliage that retains its vibrant hue throughout the year, providing a beautiful contrast to the typical dark green of other yew varieties. The upright, dense growth habit of 'David' makes it an excellent choice for adding vertical interest and structure to various garden settings.
This hardy plant thrives in well-drained soil and can tolerate a range of light conditions from full sun to partial shade, making it adaptable to the diverse climates of the UK. Taxus baccata 'David' is low-maintenance and slow-growing, requiring minimal pruning to maintain its shape and size. Its compact form makes it ideal for use in borders, hedges, and as a standout specimen plant in smaller gardens.
In addition to its aesthetic appeal, 'David' offers practical benefits such as providing effective privacy screening and windbreaks due to its dense foliage. Its robust root system helps prevent soil erosion, and its evergreen nature ensures year-round coverage. The plant's resilience and adaptability also make it suitable for topiary work, allowing gardeners to create intricate shapes and designs. With its blend of beauty, durability, and functionality, Taxus baccata 'David' is a valuable addition to any garden, enhancing outdoor spaces with its bright, golden foliage and versatile growth habit.
