The 'Frans Fontaine' variety of Hornbeam is a narrow pyramidal shaped tree when young, which gradually broadens with age. The foliage is a vivid green colour in spring/summer before turning dark yellow in autumn. This tree is an ideal specimen for a smaller garden due to its narrow, upright habit. The 'Frans Fontaine is a native of Holland and this deciduous tree is low-maintenance as it does not benefit from regular pruning. This tree is also frequently used as an avenue tree.
